Most previous authors have intrepreted Diderma crassipes Schumach. as Diderma radiatum (L.) Morgan. This may be due to the fact that Diderma umbilicatum Pers., to which Schumacher himself refers, has been considered a variety of that species.
Both description and figure indicate that Schumacher's species is indeed Diderma umbilicatum Pers. The sporocarps in the figure are quite typical for D. umbilicatum and lack the mottled peridium characteristic of D. radiatum.

Diderma crassipes Schumach. is a synonym of Diderma umbilicatum Pers.
