Source Interpretation
Rostafinski (1875: 298) Rostafinski considers this to be a "somewhat old" Onygena faginea Fr. (i.e. Phleogena faginea (Fr. & Palmquist) Link)
Raunkiær (1888: 66) Not mentioned
Lister (1894) Not mentioned
Lister (1911: 268) "a fungus, Onygena faginea Fries"
Lister (1925: 259) "a fungus, Onygena faginea Fries"
Bjørnekær & Klinge (1964: ) Not mentioned
Martin & Alexopoulos (1969: 92) "Not a myxomycete. Probably Phleogena decorticata (Schw.) Martin" (i.e. Phleogena faginea (Fr. & Palmquist) Link)

In his treatment of the Fungi in Schumacher's herbarium, Rostrup (1884) (1) writes:
Nr. 62. "Onygena decorticata" Pers. Den samme Svamp er i Schum. Enum. p. 219 kaldt Cribraria Onygena. Expl. i Samlingen tilhøre Pilacre faginea (Fr.) Berk., og Svampenes Sporer have holdt sig fortræffeligt. Efter Schumachers tegning er den afbildet i Fl. Dan. t. 1309, f. 2.
[No. 62. Onygena decorticata" Pers. The same fungus has been called Cribraria Onygena in Schum. Enum. p. 219. The specimen in the collection belongs in Pilacre faginea (Fr.) Berk., and the spores of the fungi have been excellently preserved. The species has been depicted in Fl. dan. t. 1309, f. 2 after Schumacher's drawing.] (this author's translation)

Schumacher's description and his illustration both support the view of Rostrup (and of Rostafinski):

Cribraria Onygena Schumach. is a synonym of the fungus Phleogena faginea (Fr. & Palmquist) Link.
